A survey of the radiative processes and detection techniques used in current astronomical research. Special focus will be on preparation for participation in research programs at NAU. Speciall attention will be given to the following instrumentation: Space Infrared Telescope Facility, large and small telecopes at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory, Lowell's 31'' telescope used by National Undergraduate Research Observatory , and the Owens Valley Millimeter Array. Additional emphasis will be on observations needed by NASA's Nearby Stars Database and in using the many on-line data catalogs that will eventually comprise the National Virtual Observatory.
