AST 301 - Observational Astronomy

A survey of the radiative processes and detection techniques
used in current astronomical research.
Special focus will be on preparation for participation in
research programs at NAU. Speciall attention will be given to
the following instrumentation:
Space Infrared Telescope Facility,
large and small telecopes at
Cerro Tololo Interamerican
Observatory, Lowell's 31'' telescope used by
National Undergraduate Research Observatory
, and the
Owens Valley Millimeter Array.
Additional emphasis will be on
observations needed by
NASA's Nearby Stars Database and in using the many on-line
data catalogs that will eventually comprise the
National Virtual Observatory.
