Q. Nuvak, where did you get your name?
A. My name tells about where I was born and the job I have to do where I live now:
- "Quinault" is cause I was born at
Quinault Kennels on June 13, 2004. I came to Malamute Ranch from
Vancouver, Washington to be with my first cousin once removed
(Say What?),
Kaibab, and my other good friends Rok, Illa, and Kopi.. We're gonna pull a sled together (Yippee!). My ancestors are good sled dogs, and I am too!
- "Nuvak" is cause I live near the Hopi people and the San Francisco Peaks. Nuvak is short for Nuvak'China Mana, the Hopi Snow Maiden Kachina. If people make her happy, she will make sure there is plenty of winter snow up on "Nuvatukyaovi" (Hopi for Place of Snow up on Top = San Francisco Peaks). My humans hope that by being nice to me, I can be persuaded to end the drought of snow in Northern Arizona! They were pretty nice to me so far, so I gave them 130 inches of snow in town and 450 inches up on the peaks for Winter 2005!!
